I cannot remain silent. I will not allow my voice not to be heard. I am taking a stand. I am the father of 3 daughters and husband to a Filipina woman. I am of Italian heritage and our family’s history had its own challenges in this country when we migrated from Italy, but that pales in comparison to what has been and is happening to the Black community. I grew up in a working class family in the Northeast and have seen racism. I went to college in Colorado and witnessed racism. I moved to California and still see racism. It is a systemic problem. This problem existed even before the country was founded.
This country is supposed to be based on the tenant that all people are created equal. It is the great social experiment for all democracies. We are supposed to be a leader in the world. A land where everyone, no matter one’s beliefs, religion, or ethnic background, lives together peacefully and prospers together.
We are supposed to be the light that guides the world. Our forefathers put the language in the constitution but failed to create a system that benefits everyone equally. We have traded what is just for profit and personal gain.
Today we are at a crossroads. You can either stand by and do nothing or take action. Either way you are making a decision.
I am proud that we have built an organization that levels the playing field. Our mission is to first make sure everyone has awareness, financial knowledge, and the tools to build wealth like the top 1%.
You may think that the financial and regulatory systems were created to protect people. Words such as accredited, sophisticated, non-accredited, unsophisticated were created to protect people from being taken advantage. Well, these regulations prevent access to some of the best financial opportunities around. Today the wealth gap is the largest it has ever been and it is growing. The current antiquated regulatory and systemic policies prevent people more than help them; just look at the data. Obviously the system doesn’t work for everyone equally.
We live in a digital age where information is readily available for everyone. Information is available for people to self-educate, research and engage companies to make informed decisions.
You have an opportunity to take a stand and make this country what it should be. Understanding starts by listening. Listening leads to understanding. Understanding drives change. It’s time to take a stand. Vote, support organizations that are aligned with the true values of this country and together we can make a difference. Don’t wait on political leadership that is more concerned about their own interests than yours.
I am proud of our organization, our values and our ideas that contribute to change and make this country what is should have been a long time ago. Seeking justice and equality is not a political thing nor a personal thing. If it is not a core value we share for humanity then we cease to be human.
I am confident that the majority of Americans feel the same and we will take the necessary steps to get our country on the right track. I am committed to using my platform to speak up about injustice and identify ways to be a part of much needed change.
